SHEETROCK® Durabond 45 Setting-Type Joint Compound is a chemically-setting powder compound for drywall interiors and exteriors that permits same-day joint finishing and usually next-day decoration. This joint compound has an approximate set time of 45 minutes.
What is durabond good for?
It is an excellent compound for embedding tape, bead and trims on gypsum panels. It’s special formulation provides a high strength bond with low shrinkage that finishes with a hard, plaster-like surface when dry and is virtually unaffected by humidity.
How long does it take durabond 45 to dry?
DURABOND 20 joint compound sets in about 20-30 minutes; DURABOND 45 joint compound sets in about 30-80 minutes; DURABOND 90 joint compound sets in about 85-130 minutes; and DURABOND 210 joint compound sets in about 180-240 minutes. smoothed before set or while damp, but not completely hardened.
Is durabond stronger than easy sand?
The durabond and easy sand are both good products. The durabond drying a little harder and the easy sand being well, easier to sand. I usually buy the bags and then put them into empty joint compound 5’s for keeping. It makes it much easier than dealing with the dusty bag.
Can you paint over durabond?
If you are going to paint/prime directly to durabond, then you are going to have to wait a similar amount of time like in plaster, anywhere from 2 weeks to months. Or topcoat with pre-mixed mud and cover it so the paint doesn’t touch the durabond.
Can you skim coat with durabond 90?
Option 2 avoids that problem, but Durabond is not ideal for skim coat, at least not according to the manufacturer.
Can you use durabond on plaster?
The Durabond 90 will produce a gorgeous smooth finish that will match the existing plaster, and it’s sandable. Real white lime plaster can’t be sanded because it’s so hard. Mix the Durabond 90 with cold water to extend the working time. You apply this as you would normal drywall joint compound.
What is the difference between sheetrock and durabond?
Durabond® is similar to Sheetrock® in that it is simply a brand name that has become popular over the years. Most tradesmen these days prefer types of quick setting drywall mud that are easier to work with and easier to sand than Durabond®. But in some areas, all brands of hot mud are referred to as Durabond®.
What is the difference between joint compound and drywall mud?
Joint compound is also known as drywall mud or just mud. It’s comprised mainly of gypsum and limestone, but it also has other materials such as clay, mica, perlite, and starch. Joint compound has a spreadable consistency similar to mud, which is how it got its common name.
Do you need 3 coats of drywall mud?
You should expect a minimum of three coats of drywall mud, more likely four, and possibly even five coats. Several things will determine how many coats you need, including: Straightness of the walls. Uneven walls can take as many as five coats to achieve a smooth surface.
Should I sand between coats of drywall mud?
After the first coat has dried completely, you will need to sand and apply two more coats to the fasteners, sanding between each coat. Keep your knife clean by drawing it over the edge of the mudpan or hawk.
Does durabond stick to concrete?
One of the best joint compounds to put on concrete is Durabond. You can find Durabond at the Home Depot and other home improvement stores.
What is the difference between sheetrock 45 and 90?
The dry time is so much faster with 45 and workable time is only a bit more with 90. If you want to do drywall repairs faster look into using fibre fuse.
Can you use durabond outside?

Easy Sand 45 sets in approximately 30-80 minutes.
Do you need primer over joint compound?
If you have repaired a wall before painting, you will likely have patches of spackle or joint compound on the surface. If these repairs are small, you do not need to buy a separate primer; simply use a small amount of your regular paint and brush it lightly on those areas to “spot-prime” the wall.
