Turface Athletics MVP is an infield conditioner composed of large particles that you can use as a topdressing to help create an excellent and level playing surface. This also helps improve native soil for turf renovations, as well as prevent rain outs.
What is turface soil?
Turface is a soil conditioner. It is a calcine clay product used to improve drainage, reduce compaction, hold moisture, improve the CEC of the soil.
How much turface do I need?
With most infield mixes, the recommendation for Turface® incorporation is about one ton (roughly 40 bags) of product per 1,000 square feet of skinned area. This results in approximately 10 tons of Turface for a high school, college or professional field with 90 foot baselines and grass infield.
What can I use instead of turface?
Napa floor dry #8822 is used as a substitute for turface.
Is turface good for bonsai?
Turface is most commonly used as a soil additive to help improve drainage. We use turface is our pre-mixed and ready to use Tropical, Conifer, Deciduous, or Azalea bonsai soil. Turface absorbs its weight in water while decreasing soil compaction, which is what you want from bonsai soil.
How do you apply turface?

Use 50-lb bags, rake into the surface. To topdress with 1⁄8″ of Turface, apply at a rate of 375 lbs per 1,000 sq ft. *Assumes grass infield; use double the amount of Turface if completely skinned. **Annually over 3-4 years.
What is turface made from?

Does turface break down?
And turface doesn’t break down. Lots of dust can accumulate in the bottom of pots sitting outside for a couple years. Ask anyone with a swimming pool.

Turface is a high fired Calcined Clay, for use in soil mixes for Bonsai, Succulents, Cactus & soil mixes for specialty nursery plants requiring well draining soil and moisture control.
Can you put turface on grass?
Turface MVP not only has benefits for sports fields but also works great for lawns, gardens and flower beds by tilling it into the soil. Turface MVP sports field conditioner has the unique ability to absorb its own weight in water and slowly release this moisture over and over again.

How long does turface last?
Turface has a degradation factor of just 3% over 20 years, lasting season after season to condition fields. If your budget prevents you from doing a complete renovation, apply 2 to 3 tons of Turface into the top 1 to 1.5 inches with a nail drag.
Is turface safe?
Answer: Turface Athletics Quick Dry is labeled only to be applied to athletic fields. It is safe for pets to return to treated areas on the field once the product has absorbed the water and been raked in.
Is expanded shale good for succulents?
CARING FOR SUCCULENTS—True love! Soil: Succulents and cacti thrive in well draining, porous soils. Gravel or expanded shale can be added to the bottom of the container to help increase drainage. A basic, sandy potting soil mixed with vermiculite makes a great succulent mix!
